Basement coatings accomplish two primary goals. Moisture will migrate through concrete foundations which increase indoor humidity and over the long term can cause moisture related damage. By using our MoistureLok in combination with any of resinous coating solutions, moisture and damage in home can be mitigated with a decorative and functional coating solution.
Before applying decorative coatings to any surface, either a garage or a basement floor you need to address cracks, holes, and any other surface defect or damage that would interfere with a seamless floor coating. Cracks can be easily addressed using various resin products, mortars and concrete depending on the severity of the crack. When determining which product to use it is going to come down to the size of the crack, required architectural strength, and the return to service time needed. Epoxy and polyurethane resin systems will typically offer superior performance when it comes down to time and strength development.
100% Solids Epoxy
You can use our two component 100% solids epoxy coating mixed with sand or aggregate. This mixture forms a thick slurry that can be applied to fill cracks and holes in concrete. The reaction will typically require cure overnight before returning to work. This resin sand/aggregate mixture is as strong as concrete, cures quicker allowing a faster return to work time, and will not crack like concrete. This is a great solution for larger cracks and holes.
Polyurethane Crack Filler
Our two component polyurethane crack filler product is a 1:1 mix polyurethane quick set system. Mixed with sand and aggregate the system will be much faster curing than epoxy with excellent strength and crack-resistant properties desired. This crack filler was specifically designed for same day return to service times. Meaning you can fill the cracks and then grind them smooth 1 hour later.
Basements are typically cold, dark and damp places. Using the right coatings in your basement can ensure longevity and add usability to your basement. Before applying any coatings, it is important to address ventilation, and any humidity / water issues in the basement. Water-borne Epoxy Primer Moisture Vapor Barrier 150W
This is a two component waterborne epoxy coating that can be applied to damp concrete, but not concrete that is wet or pooling water. This product penetrates the concrete and creates a barrier between the concrete and water vapors. This primer will strengthen the substrate so that subsequent coating layers do not pop off from the moisture vapor transmission pressures. Odor is moderate, some ventilation is recommended.
Single component modified silicate solution supplied as a ready to use moisture barrier and sealer for concrete. This silicate solution reacts with available alkali in the concrete substrate to form a crystalline structure. In essence, this is a concrete densifier reducing vapor and moisture drive through the substrate. Odor is moderate, some ventilation is recommended.
Solvent-borne Acrylic Coating / Sealer
A single component acrylic resin dispersed in urethane grade xylene. Features good performance for a low cost. Can be applied clear or pigmented to any color you desire. For use as a protective and decorative concrete coating or sealer. Cannot be applied to wet or damp concrete, concrete must be clean and dry. May require additional coats as needed on a yearly or biannual basis according to wear levels. Odor is moderate, some ventilation is recommended.
Water-borne Acrylic Coating / Sealer
This single component waterborne acrylic coating can be applied to damp concrete, not wet or pooling water. Easy to apply and tint and color you desire. This component is self-crosslinking and will offer higher performance compared to the solvent borne acrylic coating. May require yearly or bi-annual coating maintenance such as refresher coat to bring life back to the coating. Odor is moderate, some ventilation is recommended
Water Borne Epoxy Coating 250 W
A two component waterborne epoxy coating. Good for solid color and chip floors. This waterborne coating is rather slow and makes installation very easy, but requires at least 2 days to install due to the slow reaction of the epoxy. Odor is moderate, some ventilation is recommended.
100% Solid Epoxy Coating 300 S
A two component coating consisting of standard epoxy resin crosslinked with a cycloaliphatic amine. Creating a strong, flexible floor coating that will last for years. Featuring good chemical, abrasion, and hot tire pickup resistance. Technically this coating has some UV resistance because of the cycloaliphatic hardener, however it will yellow in time. Only recommended for basements without exposure to sunlight. Can be pigmented, used with chips, and even metallic pigments. Odor is moderate, some ventilation is recommended.
Polyurethane / Polyaspartic Coating
Both systems are 2 component high cross link density floor coatings. These systems feature excellent chemical, abrasion hot tire pick-up and UV resistance. The best, longest lasting coating system available for your concrete floors. We recommend using a moisture vapor barrier before applying this coating on a basement floor. Can be pigmented any color, used with flooring chips and metallic pigments. Odor is excessive, ventilation is an absolute must.
